Reece James Faces Three-Month Spell on Sidelines After Knee Surgery
Chelsea's captain Reece James is set for a significant spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery. The 26-year-old picked up the injury during training last Friday, just before the Blues secured a 5-1 victory against Bournemouth. Following the successful procedure, Chelsea announced that James is expected to be unavailable for about three months. This means he could be out of action until early 2027, leaving the team without their influential leader for vital fixtures. Blues manager Xabi Alonso is anticipated to address the media regarding James' condition during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's encounter with Everton. The news of James' injury comes as he prepares to miss high-stakes matches against top rivals like Liverpool and Manchester City. Throughout his career, James has faced several injury challenges, and this is yet another hurdle in his path. Last season saw him enjoy a rare injury-free run, appearing in 29 Premier League games—the most since the 2020/21 campaign—which earned him a spot on England's World Cup squad. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury during the tournament sidelined him for three games, although he managed to return for the semi-final against Argentina. This season, James has played six times, including three starts in the Premier League. In March, he committed his future to Chelsea by signing a new six-year deal, but now fans must wait to see him back in action. Upcoming fixtures include matches against Everton, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Sunderland—all crucial contests in which his absence will be felt.
