McTominay Makes Comeback as Penrice Earns First Scotland Call-Up

McTominay Makes Comeback as Penrice Earns First Scotland Call-Up
Scott McTominay is set to make his return to the Scotland squad after missing several matches for both club and country due to a minor heart procedure in September and October. He’s joined by Kieran Tierney and Che Adams as they gear up for important Nations League clashes against North Macedonia at home and Switzerland away. In exciting news, James Penrice receives his first call-up to the national team, while Kristi Montgomery, who made a late addition last time, retains his spot in the squad. Unfortunately, Scott McKenna and Kenny McLean will not participate due to injuries, and Lennon Miller, Josh Doig, Colby Donovan, and James Wilson have been left out. Head coach Sebastien Pocognoli initially selected a larger group of 28 players for the first four matches, which sadly included disappointing home losses to both Switzerland and Slovenia. For these upcoming fixtures, he has trimmed the squad to 26, continuing to include four goalkeepers. Scotland currently sits third in Group B1 and needs at least four points from these matches to have a shot at finishing second for a chance at promotion play-offs. Just a single point would help them avoid the risk of relegation. Switzerland is at the top of the group with a perfect record, while Slovenia is three points ahead of Scotland. Penrice, the 27-year-old left-back, has been making waves at Rangers since joining on loan from AEK Athens. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Montgomery has been a regular starter for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship this season. After his health scare, McTominay has bounced back impressively, netting four goals in seven appearances. Adams has also found his rhythm at Torino, scoring two goals in five Serie A games after recovering from an adductor issue. Notably, captain Andy Robertson is on the verge of surpassing Sir Kenny Dalglish’s record of 102 caps if he plays in both matches scheduled for November 13 and 16.
