Last-Gasp Equaliser Gives Sage a Glimmer of Hope
Pierre Sage received a much-needed boost as Crystal Palace managed to secure a thrilling 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim in the Europa League, even with just ten men after Adam Wharton's red card. The Eagles arrived at Selhurst Park looking for a turnaround, having suffered three straight losses in the Premier League that placed them in the relegation zone. With questions swirling around Sage’s future, the stakes were high. However, their defensive issues resurfaced early when Alexander Prass put Hoffenheim ahead in the seventh minute, with his shot slipping under goalkeeper Dean Henderson after Palace was caught napping on the counterattack. Though Palace created some attacking chances, they struggled to convert possession into clear opportunities, while Hoffenheim looked threatening on the break. Henderson had to pull off a superb save to deny Andrej Kramaric, keeping Palace in the game. Things took a turn for the worse when Wharton was shown a second yellow card in the 77th minute for a foul on Wouter Burger, leaving Palace to finish the match a man down. It seemed a second defeat was on the horizon. But in a dramatic twist, Daichi Kamada found the net in stoppage time to level the score. After a cross from Yeremy Pino, Tyrick Mitchell headed the ball down, and Kamada snuck it through the goalkeeper’s legs, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. While the draw provides some relief, Palace still has significant defensive concerns to tackle, and this match won’t silence Sage’s critics entirely. Yet, the late equaliser offers a moment of respite as the Eagles gear up for a challenging clash against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
