Clarence Seedorf Takes the Helm at Corinthians
Clarence Seedorf, a legendary figure in Dutch football, has been named the head coach of Corinthians. Known for his impressive international career, with 87 caps and 11 goals for the Netherlands, Seedorf steps into this role for the first time since 2019. The 50-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of 2027. Corinthians currently sit 16th in the Brazilian Serie A, just above the relegation zone, with only eight games remaining in the season. He takes over from Fernando Diniz, who was dismissed after a disappointing run of seven straight league defeats. Seedorf's previous coaching experience includes stints with AC Milan, Shenzhen FC, and Deportivo La Coruña, but his last role was with the Cameroon national team over seven years ago. "It’s an honor to take on this challenge, and I understand the responsibility that comes with it. I’m committed to building a team that gives its all on the pitch, fighting for every ball and every victory," Seedorf stated upon his appointment. He will be working with a squad featuring notable players like Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard, both of whom have experience from their time in the Premier League. Seedorf's playing career is nothing short of remarkable, culminating in his retirement in 2014. He won four Champions League titles, making history as the only player to achieve this with three different clubs: Ajax, Real Madrid, and AC Milan. In other news, Depay recently defended a music video that showcased Corinthians’ headquarters in flames, while also addressing his use of a mobile phone during matches.
